Can't find local printers

By default, the Citrix Receiver should map your local printers automatically, and these printers will be available in your HarborCloud session just as they are available on your local machine. If you do not see your local printers appearing in HarborCloud, then the Receiver did not correctly map them for your session. Below are some of the most common causes for printer no-shows:

  1. Citrix Receiver failed to map printers for your session
  2. Conflict with pre-installed "green" Citrix Receiver
  3. Outdated Citrix Receiver
  4. Citrix Receiver is having difficulty detecting the appropriate local printers

We recommend troubleshooting missing printers in the order below.

1. Missing Printer Session

Occasionally the Receiver on your local machine may simply fail to map printers for your HarborCloud session. You can just restart your HarborCloud session and your printers may reappear the next time you log in.

  1. Close out of all HarborCloud applications
  2. Log off from the HarborCloud Dashboard (click on your username in the upper-right and click Log Off)
  3. Restart your web browser
  4. Log back in and try again

2. Outdated Citrix Receiver

The Citrix Receiver is the primary application responsible for mapping your local printers, and Citrix is constantly improving the software to, among other things, minimize potential missing printer sessions. However, the application unfortunately does not automatically update, and so newer Receiver versions must be installed manually.

  1. Log completely out of HarborCloud
  2. Go to
  3. Choose to download the latest Citrix Receiver
  4. After the file downloads, choose to run the file to launch the Citrix Receiver installation wizard
  5. After the installation is complete, if prompted to Add Account or Finish, click Finish
  6. Restart your web browser
  7. Log back into HarborCloud and try again

3. Green Citrix Receiver Conflict

Some Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 machines come pre-installed with the "green" Citrix Receiver. It looks like this: Green Citrix Receiver.PNG

This is the Windows Store app version of the Citrix Receiver, and unfortunately it's a stripped down app that does have all the features that the full Citrix Receiver offers. First, check to see if you have the green Citrix Receiver on your Windows computer:

  • Windows 8.1 - Open the Charm Bar (Windows key + C) and click Search. Type in "Citrix Receiver" and look for the green Citrix Receiver in the results.
  • Windows 10 - Type in "Citrix Receiver" in the search bar by the Windows Start button and look for the green Citrix Receiver in the results.

If you don't see the green Citrix Receiver as an installed app then you're all set! If you did, you simply need to remove it and install the "real" Receiver instead.

  1. Log completely out of HarborCloud
  2. Right-click on the green Citrix Receiver icon and select Uninstall
  3. Install the latest Citrix Receiver from

See the Outdated Citrix Receiver section above for full instructions on how to install the latest Receiver.

4. Local Printer Detection Problems

The Citrix Receiver is supposed to bring over the correct default printer as well as other printers based on your local settings. Sometimes the Receiver has problems detecting these local printers, and by checking or refreshing these local settings you can help ensure the Receiver is able to detect the appropriate devices.

  1. Log completely out of HarborCloud
  2. Launch the Control Panel on your local computer
  3. Click View devices and printers
  4. Right-click on the printer you wish to use and select Set as default printer
  5. If the correct printer is already selected, select a different printer as the default printer, and then re-select the original printer as the default printer (i.e., toggle the default printer selection)

Still don't see your printers?

If you have gone through all the above steps but you still don't see your local printers in HarborCloud, please submit a ticket and we will help you out. Thank you!
